Web evangelist. Devoted educator. Veteran musician.
Web Developer
I develop websites for clients via my company, White Buffalo Websites. My specialty areas are WordPress and E-Commerce.
CS Educator
I am a part-time Computer Science instructor at MinnState. I publish the curriculum for the courses I teach at my WebDevStudents.com website.
Bassist
I place bass guitar and sing backup in the Deep Fried Tweeters. Our band plays mostly West of the Twin Cities, in towns near Howard Lake and Waverly.
Transition to Computer Science
After working 30 years in health care administration I made a radical career change in 2012. I said goodbye to the corporate life and began a new career as small business owner, making apps and websites. I have largely taught myself to program with significant help from David Book, founder of Buzztouch, and Shane Smith, my adult son and programmer. I am forever indebted to both of them. I am also indebted to my husband, who supported my decision to give up a successful career to start over again in a new field.
My Skills
I specialize in making eCommerce websites with WordPress and WooCommerce. I also do development on Shopify, and with HTML, CSS, PHP, mySql, and occasionally JavaScript. Because most of my clients are small businesses I assist with all of their technology and design needs. I am a natural project manager and have an uncanny drive to execute on deliverables. I have an M.B.A. and love business strategy.
Love of Education
I have a passion for education and studied secondary education and well as history and music for my undergrad. In 2014 I founded two Girl Develop It Chapters, one in Minneapolis and one in Phoenix. I am part-time instructor at Saint Paul College in the Computer Science Department and have a website with tools and resources for students at WebDevStudents.com.
White Buffalo Websites
The name of my company is White Buffalo LLC. For Lakota Indians, the birth of a white buffalo is a good omen. That is why the logo depicts a young white buffalo with a larger adult. By the way, the buffalo have names. The name of the little white buffalo is Hopi, the big buffalo is her big brother Tatonka.
